Planning & Climate Protection: Project Update & Partner Dialogue
Sponsored by the American Planning Association and the Environmental and Energy Study Institute
Thursday, February 7, 2008, 4:30 - 5:30 pm
“Maryland B” Room, Marriott-Wardman Hotel, 2660 Woodley Rd NW, Washington, DC 20008
The American Planning Association (APA) and the Environmental and Energy and Study Institute (EESI) invite you to learn and share information about the role that planners play in reducing the carbon footprint of their communities and transitioning to a new energy future. We are hosting this informal session in cooperation with the upcoming New Partners for Smart Growth conference, taking place at the Marriott-Wardman Hotel in Washington DC, February 7-9.
APA and EESI have undertaken a three-year project to provide state-of-the-practice tools and guidance to help planning professionals integrate climate protection and sustainable energy goals into their ongoing work. Activities include development of an online database and publication of a collaborative report that together will synthesize the best thinking and practical experience related to addressing climate and energy issues in the planning process.
In mid-2007, APA and EESI convened an initial “partner dialogue” that helped shape the initial direction of the project. The February 7th session will be an opportunity for partners old and new to get an update on the project’s findings to-date and provide additional guidance to the project going forward.
Building stronger partnerships among planners, energy professionals, and other key players is a central theme of the project, and we are encouraging input from a broad range of experts and practitioners.
Light refreshments will be available. RSVP appreciated to Deirdre Nicholson, dnicholson@eesi.org, 202-662-1880. If you have any questions about the event or the project, please contact Jan Mueller at jmueller@eesi.org, 202-662-1883.
We look forward to seeing you.
